NZCHTA Conference and exam days- April 2025
The Association brings together hoof trimmers, industry professionals, and stakeholders to share ideas, knowledge, and solutions for tackling lameness issues on farms.
In just 12 months, NZCHTA membership has doubled — a clear sign of both the growing hoof trimming sector and the value the Association brings. This growth underscores the importance of formal standards and qualifications as the industry evolves. They also see themselves as providing a structured pathway for people who are interested in pursuing a career as a professional hoof trimmer.
The significance of this work was highlighted during the NZCHTA Conference Day, where Mike Shallcrass, representing Fonterra, spoke about Fonterra’s perspective on lameness and the importance of the industry to be, and to be seen, to be proactive in managing lameness.
As part of its ongoing commitment to education and excellence, seven hoof trimmers recently participated in refresher sessions ahead of their Hoof Trimming Examination, held on April 10 –11. The Hoof Care Diploma, offered by the Dairy Hoofcare Institute (DHI) in Canterbury, is a respected industry credential involving both practical and verbal assessments.
